I have so many good and loving memories of my Aunt Jo. The wonderful Thanksgivings, the summers I lived in my Aunts pink house, swimming, laughing and always good food. As a child and teenager her humor, hospitality, wit and kindness made a lasting impression on me. I'm glad and thankful Joann Culp was my Aunt Jo.
Love, Karen

To many to count- "The Pucker mouth family"- The fish song- the vacations in Sea Isle- swimming in the pool- the cool bread box- ( it was metal and had a black handle- maybe yellow flower on it) the best part it had Oreo's in side and we COULD have some. The chocolate Chip cake-The way she could make EVERYONE feel welcome - we were never a bother --and important--
Here is the recipe--
MRS CULP’S CHOCOLATE CAKE
2 STICKS OF BUTTER- SOFTEN
1 ½ CUPS OF SUGAR
5 EGGS
1 TSP VANILLA
1 TSP ALMOND EXTRACT
1 TSP BAKING POWDER
1 TSP BAKING SODA
3 CUPS OF FLOUR ( I USE CAKE FLOUR NOT ALL PURPOSE)
8 OZ SOUR CREAM
8 OZS CHOCOLATE CHIPS
1 CUP CHOPPED WALNUTS
½ CUP SUGAR
CINNAMON NO AMOUNT LISTED I USE ABOUT 2 TABLESPOONS
( The above is the chocolate chip mixture)
Preheat oven 375 –
Pan –( butter and flour pan) if you use a baking pan 8x11 – bake for 50 minutes
If you use a tube pan – bake for 1 hour may need as much as 15 more minutes.
Mix Sugar, butter, eggs, vanilla and almond
Add in flour alternating with sour cream
Place batter on bottom of pan- alternate with chocolate chip mixture- batter- CCM-- the top layer is the CCM
This cake was introduced to our family by Mrs. Culp- she would bring it to our house for my father’s birthday every December 27 (Paul Deeney). The cake would bring a great smile to his face and “whippie” out of his mouth. All 11 of the children in the house were just as happy- we knew he would share his present.
I made one for her family and I will bring it tonight-- Love Ya Renee'
If you wan tthe recipe and can't print this then email me at --I will gladly send it--
