Jay E. Sporl Sr., 74 of Cape May, NJ passed away at home surrounded by family on July 14, 2024. Jay served in the USCG and retired after 21 years as a Chief Petty Officer. He was Vice President at Seashore Campsites for the remainder of his career. Jay was a member of Tabernacle United Methodist Church, served as a chairman on the Cape May County Chamber of commerce, president of the NJ Campground association and on the National Board of Campground's Association. Jay also supported many other organizations. Jay's favorite title was Pop/Poppy. His four grandchildren were his greatest joy. Jay is survived by his wife Valerie of 53 years, his children Jay E. Sporl Jr. and Heather Lynn Sporl-Oliver (his favorite), his Grandchildren Collin Sporl, Natalie Sporl-Ankrum (Rick) Hannah Oliver and Lily Oliver. He is also survived by his siblings Richard Sporl (Lanette), Daphne Dinlocker (Ronald), Michael Sporl (Kit), Jeff Sporl (Abbie) and many loving nieces and nephews. Jay was pre-deceased by his brother Jonathan Sporl. Services will be held on Thursday, July 25th at Tabernacle United Methodist Church located at 702 Seashore Rd. Erma NJ. Visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 pm with his service starting at 1:00 pm. Military funeral honors and committal service will be held immediately afterwards at the Gerald M. Thornton Veterans' Cemetery (Cape May County Veterans Cemetery) located at 129 Crest Haven Rd., Cape May Court House, NJ.
