Obituary of Elva Hertneck

Elva (Nilson) Hertneck passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on Thursday, January 18, 2024 at the age of 96. Born in Maple Shade, NJ to Louis & Helen (Keough) Nilson, Elva was raised in a Christ centered home. Her strong faith carried her throughout her life on earth to the very end. Educated though high school in Moorestown NJ, she later married her loving husband Robert. Together they raised 6 children. Always a good listener, Elva quietly offered support and guidance to all in her humble, loving way. Praising God in parish choir throughout life, she also graced us by sharing that sweet soprano voice at countless weddings, funerals, and other events. Elva was active in many parish ministries, worked at Camden Catholic High School for 28 years and volunteered her time and energy in numerous other areas. Above all, gathering with family and friends was what brought Elva the most joy throughout her years. Her surviving legacy are her children Robert (Nancy), Eileen (Marty) Coyle, Charles (Mary), Raymond (Cynthia), Donna (Jim) Swanson, Ann (Jay) Sharkey, her 11 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 4 pm – 6 pm Friday, January 26 at Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Road, North Cape May, NJ and 10-11 am Saturday, January 27 at Parish of St John Neumann Church of St John of God, 680 Town Bank Road, North Cape May, NJ. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 am. Interment will follow at Cape May County Veteran's Cemetery. Donations may be made to St. John of God Church, 680 Town Bank Road, North Cape May, NJ.
