McKENNA, Joseph Maximillian, Sr "Mac", age 84, died at his summer home in N Cape May due to a long illness, having been a bladder cancer survivor for more than 20 years. Retired LT, US Coast Guard having served from Nov. 1957 to Aug. 1977 at assignments aboard the USCG Cutter CHINCOTEAGUE, Norfolk, VA; USCG HQS, Washington, DC; USCG Cutter UNIMAK, Cape May, NJ; USCG Training Center, Cape May, NJ; USCG Base, Kodiak, AK and USCG Boating Safety Office, Ninth CG District, Cleveland, OH. Former Director Carbon County, PA Rural Transportation System. Retired caseworker for Carbon County Assistance, DPW, Jim Thorpe, PA. Member of Towson High School Alumni Association, Towson, MD; member of Alumni Association, University of Baltimore, MD. Past Master Councilor; Chevalier; Blue Honor Key and Majority member of Mt Moriah Chapter, Order of DeMolay, Towson, MD. Past Senior Deacon and former Editor of State paper for MD State DeMolays. 60-year member of Mt Moriah Lodge #116 AF&AM, Towson, MD. 40-year member Scottish Rite Consistory, Anchorage, AK. 40-year member Al Aska Shrine, AAONMS, Anchorage, AK Former member Al Koran Shrine Kampers Klub, Cleveland, OH. Board member Cape May County Shrine Club. Member Crescent Shrine Legion of Honor. Member Cape May County Scottish Rite Club. Past President Cape May City Elementary School PTA. Past Chairman Cub Scout Pack Committee, Cape May, NJ. Dual member Cape Island Lodge #30, F&AM, Cape May, NJ. Life member Military Retirees Association, Lehighton, PA. Treasurer, Jersey Cape Chapter, Military Officers Association of America. Secretary/Treasurer Cape May County Crime Stoppers, Crest Haven, NJ. Treasurer, Cape May County Chapter of The Compassionate Friends. Member of North Cape May Senior Citizens Club. Council member Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, Villas, NJ. Survived by spouse Meridel "Del" Rooney McKenna of 45 years; son Joseph Maximillian, Jr, "Mickey" (and wife Anne): daughter Lynnda McKenna Riederer all of Cape May, grandchildren Maxime and Louise McKenna and Kirsten Sanders and Ryan Riederer; Step-daughter Kathleen Rooney of Jim Thorpe, PA and step-son Timothy Rooney of Mustang, OK. Predeceased in death by brother Richard S McKenna, and step-son James P Rooney. In lieu of flowers family would appreciate donations to Shriners' Children Hospital, Philadelphia, PA. A Funeral Service will be held 11 AM Saturday May 5, 2018 at the Holy Spirit Lutheran Church, 1220 Bayshore Rd., Villas where relatives and friends may call from 9:30 to 11:00 am. A Masonic service will be presented by members of Cape Island Lodge #30 F&AM. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. Condolences can be shared at www.EvoyFuneralHome.com.
