Obituary of Nicholas Charles Smargiassi
Nicholas Charles Smargiassi, age 88, of Villas, NJ passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2018. Nicholas was born September 24, 1929 in Manhattan, NY. He is the son of the late Carmine and the late Michelina (DiFoglio) Smargiassi. He served in the Army during the Korean War from 10/11/1951 to 09/17/1953 and earned the Occupation Medal (Germany) and Good Conduct Medal. He first worked as an auto mechanic at Bushong Pontiac that later became Regesters Pontiac in Upper Darby, PA where he ultimately was promoted to Service Manager. He later worked at the Army Quartermasters in South Philadelphia as an auto mechanic before retiring. Nicholas was active in the North Cape May Seniors organization and the Federation Club. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Nicholas is predeceased by his wife of 44 years Susan Heisler as well as his sisters Betty Latterie, Anna Russo, Assunta Serra and Nancy Maglio. He is survived by three daughters: Diane (Daniel) Damanskis of Deptford, NJ, Nancy (Lawrence) Bradley of West Grove, PA, and Susan (Carl) Spatocco of Cape May, NJ as well as eleven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his dearest friend Barbara D'Attilo.
A Mass will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 13th, 2018 at the Parish of St. John of God RC Church, 680 Townbank, Rd., N. Cape May, NJ 08204; Calling hours will be Saturday, January13 from 08:30 to 10:30 am at Evoy's Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., N. Cape May 08204. Luncheon to follow after the mass.
