Delbert D. Helt, Jr. "Junie", age 90, of West Cape May, NJ passed away peacefully Sunday, March 27, 2016. Junie was born May 30, 1925 in Lock Haven, PA. He was a 1942 graduate of Lock Haven High School, served his country in the US Navy during World War II serving on the USS Flint in the Pacific Theatre, was a 1948 Electrical Engineering graduate of Penn State University (where he played 4 years varsity tennis serving as Captain his senior year), and was a 1951 graduate of Eckelis College of Mortuary Science. He was the owner/operator of Helt Funeral Home, Lock Haven, PA for 40 years until his retirement in1990. Junie was a member of St. Luke's United Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon for many years. He was a lifetime member of the American Legion; a member of the Lafayette Lodge #0199 F&AM and the Royal Arch chapter # 163 Master Mason; the Shriner's Club; the Elks Club; Clinton Country Club; Past Commander of the Lock Haven American Legion; Past President of the Lock Haven Kiwanis Club; and a member of the Cape May Tennis Club. He was an avid golfer, skier and tennis player. Junie was inducted into the PA Sports Hall of Fame in 1994 for his accomplishments in tennis, where he won numerous singles and doubles championships. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years: Patricia (Gibson) Helt of West Cape May, NJ; one daughter: Cynthia (Wesley) Kline of West Cape May, NJ; and two sons: Delbert (Kathryn) D "Tag" Helt, III of Greenville, SC and Franklin (Susan) Helt of Lock Haven, PA. Also surviving are three grandchildren; six step grandchildren; one brother-in-law Ken (Mary) Gibson; one sister-in-law Huberta "Toni" Helt; three nephews, and one niece. Junie was preceded in death by his brother Charles Theodore Helt. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 am on Friday, April 1, 2016 at St Luke's United Church of Christ, 1175 West Fourth St, Flemington, PA 17745; where friends will be received from 10:00 to11:00 am. Interment will follow at Highland Cemetery, North Fairview St, Lock Haven, PA. The family suggests donations in Junie's memory to St Luke's United Church of Christ or the Cape May Tennis Club scholarship fund, 1020 Washington St, PO Box 148, Cape May, NJ 08204.
