Obituary of Frederick W Neal

Please share a memory of Frederick to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Frederick Warren Neal, age 86, of Cold Spring, NJ passed away Friday, February 12, 2016. He was born July 3, 1929 as a "Margaret Mace Baby" at the Margaret Mace Hospital in North Wildwood, NJ and was preceded in death by his 3 older sisters, Pauline A (Gross) Neal, Peggy W (Rosell) Neal and Eleanor M (Hallman) Neal, and his adoring wife, Ann (Solly) Neal. Fred grew up in Rio Grande, NJ and attended Middle Township School District. He was a tremendous athlete, playing and excelling in four sports all through high school. After graduating high school he attended Pierce Junior College and from there began his lifelong and successful career in business and sales. While in high school Fred met the love of his life, Ann Solly, on the boardwalk in Wildwood, NJ. They were married September 23, 1950 and raised three children: Victoria Anne, Frederick Robert and Douglas Warren. As his children grew to love sports as much as he did, Fred became involved with their various teams, was their coach and mentor, and helped to form the King of Prussia Indians Football Association. In 1986 Fred and Ann moved to Cold Spring, NJ. In addition to their love of travel, they joined the South Jersey Garden Railroad Society, and became avid members, building garden railroads in their backyard, and displaying them during shows at local schools and organizations. Fred always enjoyed working with his hands and was a true master at building replicas of some of his favorite memorable homes, schools and churches, and then adding them as scenery to his train displays. They were loving grandparents to: Jeffrey Scott France, Matthew Sean France, Lindsay Ashton Neal, Jillian Elizabeth Neal, Christopher Douglas Neal, Ryan Andrew Neal, and Scott Joseph Neal, and great-grandparents to Silas Christopher Neal. While living in King of Prussia for 35 years, Fred and Ann were founding member of Valley Forge Church (later named Valley Forge Presbyterian Church), where Fred was an ordained Elder. After moving to New Jersey, they joined Cold Spring Presbyterian where they continued to stay involved and follow their faith. Frederick W Neal will be remembered as a hard worker, a caring and loving husband, father and grandfather, and one of the "good guys". He had a fabulous, often quirky sense of humor, all the way to the end. Just show him a pretty young blonde walking by, and it would elicit a tongue in cheek comment … and he always had a warming smile. Fred, you will be missed, but not forgotten. Rest in peace. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 20, 2016 11:00 AM at Cold Spring Presbyterian Church, 780 Seashore Rd, Cold Spring, NJ 08204. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you kindly make contributions to Alzheimer's Research.
