Robert A McCann Jr., age 88, of North Cape May passed away on Thursday, November 12, 2009 at home surrounded by his loved ones. Born in Philadelphia and raised in Colwyn, PA, he has been a Cape May area resident for 57 years. Robert was a pipefitter and worked for the DuPont Chemical Company for 22 years. He was also employed by: Harbison Walker's Magnesite Plant, Cape May Paint, Riggins Oil Co, Hotel Adelphia in Philadelphia, and most recently by the Cape May/Lewes Ferry. Robert served his country during World War II in the Merchant Marines (sailing for the Luchenbach Steamship Co) and was a lieutenant in the US Naval Reserve. He was a past president of the Cape May AARP, was active in cub scouts, coached for Lower Twp basketball, little league baseball, and belonged to the Pennsylvania School Ship Association.
Robert is survived by his loving wife Anna (Leinhauser) of North Cape May; daughter Roberta (Edward) Campbell of Wheeling, WV; son Robert A III (Edna) McCann of North Cape May; son Ronald A (Karen) McCann of Ridgefield, WA; son Richard F (Peggy) McCann of Cape May; 13 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; numerous nieces; nephews; and their families. He was preceded in death by his sister Margaret Aydelotte and his brother John P McCann.
There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St John of God RC Church, Townbank Rd, North Cape May at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, November 18, 2009. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM at the church. Interment will be at St Peter & Paul Cemetery, Springfield, PA following the service.
