Obituary of Eric David John Edwards

Eric David John Edwards, age 68, of Cape May passed away peacefully September 30, 2009 at the North Cape Center after a short battle with lung cancer. Born in Lutterworth, England, he spent 12 years in the Royal Navy as a Warrant Officer on board diesel submarines. In the early 1970's, Eric became a US citizen after living in Halifax, Nova Scotia; Rockland, Maine; and Southwest Harbor, Maine where he worked in the shipyard industry, and owned the Southwest Boat Yard. In the late 1980's he moved to Pompton Plains, NJ where he met his wife, Edythe, who he married in 1991. Eric was a member of the Maine Chamber of Commerce, and the Maine Jaycees where he served as president in 1972-73. After moving to Pompton Plains NJ, he continued his public service through organizations like the Consistory of the First Reformed Church, the Pequannock Twp Board of Adjustment, and the Republican Club. Eric retired in 2001 and moved to Cape May, where he joined the Kiwanis Club and the Cape May National Golf Club. His passions were many including; sailing, flying, playing golf, traveling, and spending time with his family and grandchildren.
Eric leaves behind his beloved wife, Edythe; his son Robert (Celeste) and children Julia Rae & Liana Reese of Gorham, ME; his daughter Heather (Troy) Lewis and children Emily & Nicholas of Mount Desert, ME; his daughter Erica Gitin and children Katie & Alexander of Bloomingdale, NJ; his stepdaughter Barbara (Wayne) Keyser and children Hank & Calvin of Montgomeryville, PA; and his stepson Robert (Deborah) Thompson and children Libby & Ally of Monument, CO; along with cousins and family in England.
Memorial Services will be held Tuesday, October 6, 2009 at 11:00 am at the Evoy Funeral Home in North Cape May. Friends may call after 10:00 am. Internment will be private.
