Joseph J. Coates, age 87, of Villas, NJ died on Thursday at Court House Convalescent Center. Born in Phila., Pa., he formerly lived in the Mayfair Section of Phila. before moving here 22 years ago. He served in the U. S. Navy during WW II. He was a sheet metal worker for 37 years and a member of Local #19. He was also a member of the Golden Agers, member and past Treasurer of the Democrat Club of Lower Township, member of Civic Club, Federation of Seniors, St. Raymond's Church, Villas Fishing Club and was an avid fisherman. Surviving are his loving wife of 61 years, Rita (nee Smith); five loving sons, Joseph, Jr. (Kathy) and John (Ellen) of Langhorne, Pa., Tom (Jenn) of Newtown, Pa., Bill (Mary Pat) of Richboro, Pa., and Bob (Reenie) of Southampton, Pa.; a brother, John (Mary) Coates of Mt. Laurel, NJ; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a sister, Eleanor Metzger. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, 10:30 AM at St. Timothy R. C. Church, 3001 Levick Street, Phila, Pa. where friends may call from 8:30 AM. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery, Bensalem, Pa. Contributions in his memory may be sent to: Leukemia Society, 219 N.
