Alan Burton Baker, 78 of Cape May, died Friday, January 23, 2008 at the Atlanticare Reg. Medical Center-Mainland Campus.Born in Mount Vernon, NY, he graduated from AB Davis High School in 1948 and Iona College, New Rochelle, NY. He served in the US Army- Corporal Transportation Corp-Yokohama, Japan (1951-53). Alan was employed as an Office Manager of Sales and Statistical Analysis, for Union Carbide, New York City from 1948 -1985. He worked in San Francisco, Chicago, Danbury CT while living in Darien, CT before moving to Cape May in 1992. He was a Boy Scout Leader while in Illinois. Alan was a Connecticut Master Gardener and an active member of the Cape Harmonaires Barbershop Chorus and performed as lead singer in the Spare Part Quartet. Alan was recently selected for the Cape Harmonaires Harmony Hall of Fame.He is survived by his wife Phyllis who he married in Oct. of 1954; two sons David Alan Baker of Malden on Hudson, NY and Robert Douglas Baker of Marlborough, NH; a daughter Janet Ellen Curl of Kensington, CA; two grandsons, Gregory and Benjamin and one granddaughter Evan. Preceded in death by one brother Donald Henry Baker.A funeral service will be held Thursday,11:00 am at Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Road, N. Cape May. Friends may call Thursday from 10-11am at the funeral home.
