Frederick A. Melady, Jr. "Fred" "Pop", age 70, of Wellsboro, Pa. passed away on January 4, 2009. Born in Phila., Pa., he was a resident of Wellsboro for the past 13 years. Prior to that, he had been a resident in North Cape May. Fred served in the U. S. Navy during the Korean War. He retired from the Philadelphia Fire Dept. in 1973. He then worked in the local seafood industry as a truck driver. He was a part of the Wellsboro, Pa. Veterans Club and was active in the Catholic Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Kathryn; four children, Frederick A. III (Wendy), Kelli Kircher (Mark), Patrick (Michelle) and Kathleen Conway (Brian); a brother, Gerald; five grandchildren Ashley, Mary Frances, Patrick, Isabella and Sophia; one great-grandson, Martin and loving pet, Jake. He was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Catherine Melady and a sister, Theresa Mann. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 AM on Friday, Jan. 9, 2009 at St. John of God R. C. Church, 680 Town Bank Rd., N. Cape May, NJ, where friends may call after 10 AM. Burial will be private.
