Charles R. Newton, Jr. "Newt" died Thursday December 4, 2008, born May 7, 1935 in Camden, NJ. After attending Woodrow Wilson high School in Camden he served in the US Navy aboard the USS Exultant during the Korean War. Upon his discharge he worked at New York Shipyard in Gloucester County as a painter, later to go into personal painting with his father. He moved his family to North Cape May in 1967 where he continued his painting business. He later became employed by Snows Doxsee as part of the maintenance crew where he retired in 1997. Next to his family , his second love was the sea and fishing. He loved spending time on his boat, the Shirley E., whenever he could. In recent years, he enjoyed his early morning workout session, as well as his friends at the local gym, North Beach.He is predeceased by his beloved wife, Shirley E. Newton in August 2002, and hisParents, Charles and Marie Newton, Sr. Survived by his children Karen (David) Weinberg of North Cape May, Kim (Don) Fulk of South Dennis, Peggy Powell of North Cape May andChuck (Denise) Newton of North Cape May; four grandchildren, Charles Powell, Ashley andKyle Weinberg and Emily Newton. Also survived by his brother, Tom Newton of Pemberton, NJ and sister and brother in law Joan and Joe McKeown of Ocean City, NJ and numerousNieces and nephews and his canine companion, Buddy.A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11:00 am at Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Road, N. Cape May. Friends may call Tuesday from 9 to 11 AM. Interment will be in the Cold Spring Cemetery.
