Obituary of Gordon Lyons Dilks

Gordon L. Dilks, age 91, of North Cape May died on Saturday, August 2, 2008 at North Cape Center. Born in Delaware Co., Pa., he resided there until retiring to this area in 1978. Gordon and his brother Kendrick owned and operated M. L. Dilks & Sons Plumbing & Heating Co.; of Havertown, Pa. for over 40 years, a family business begun by their father, Melvern Dilks in 1913. Gordon is a WWII Army veteran, achieving the rank of Staff Sgt., serving in the 14th Infantry in the European Theater. He was a former member of the Llanerch Presbyterian Church of Havertown, Llanerch Fire Company and Delaware County Field & Stream Association. He was a member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church and attended the Cape May Beach Sunday School in Town Bank during the summer months. He was married for 69 years to Frances Nelson Dilks, who died in 2007. Surviving are his son, Wayne N. and his wife Susan D. of Town Bank; a grandson Daniel W. and his wife Donna; two great-grandchildren, Cassandra and Katie Rose; a brother, Kendrick Dilks of the Masonic Home in Elizabethtown, Pa.; a sister-in-law, Elizabeth and husband Phillip Emma of Glendora, Pa.; niece Barbara Diorio of Toms River and nephew Arthur Nelson of Dania Beach, FL. A memorial service will be held on Monday, August 11th, 11 AM at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., N. Cape May, NJ, where friends may call from 10:30AM.
