Charles W. Atkinson of Villas, NJ, born March 10, 1921 passed away on June 29, 2008 at the Court House Convalescent Center. Charlie is survived by his loving wife Lillian Harris Atkinson; children Sheila Harris of Petersburg, NJ and Earl Harris of Wildwood, NJ: brother Clarence Atkinson and his wife Frances and brother Jack Atkinson and his wife Virginia, all of South Carolina; brother-in-law William Harris and his wife Carolyn of New Jersey; sister-in-law Bernice Atkinson of South Carolina; granddaughters Robyn and Christina Amerman of Petersburg, NJ; numerous nieces and nephews and many friends. Born in Six Mile, S.C. in 1921 to a farming family, Charlie served with distinction in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war, Charlie lived in Philadelphia for 21 years and worked as a meat cutter. In 1967 he moved to Villas, NJ and began work as a Cottage Training Tech for the Woodbine Development Center, a job that he held until his retirement in 1983. Charlie was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Post #5343 and the Cape Island Masonic Lodge #30. He loved the outdoors and exercise, and was an avid and productive gardener. A private ceremony to honor Charlie is planned for a later date. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be sent in Charlies name to the Lt. Charles Buddy Lewis Post #5343, V.F.W., Villas, NJ 08251. Evoy Funeral Home.
