Obituary of Alice A. Cherry

Alice A. Cherry, 64 of, Cape May Court House, died from Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), {often referred to as Lou Gehrigs Disease} at the Transitional Life Care Center at the Crest Haven Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on May 23, 2008. Alice was born in New Hampshire but moved to Atlantic City, NJ shortly after birth. Her parents, Charles Hiers and Lucille Hiers Pagan predeceased her. Alice lived in Cape May County for more than 40 years and taught seventh and eighth graders at Richard M. Teitleman School for 25 years, retiring last year. She was a devoted and much beloved mother to Anna (LuAnn), Jamie , and Joelle. Alice was a member of Star of the Sea R.C. Parish and had also been a member of the Cape May Kiwanis Club. A truly inspirational teachershe taught as a professional, a volunteer, a role model and mentor to countless members of the community over the years. Alice is survived by her son, two daughters and their husbands; Jamie Cherry; Anna (LuAnn) and Richard Rinick of Millersville, MD; and Joelle and Jason Trombetta of Wildwood, She is survived by her sister Patricia and brother-in-law David Sweeney of Somers Point, NJ, her stepfather Jessie Pagan, brother Ed Hiers and his wife Barbara of New Hampshire and several nieces and nephews. Her surviving grandchildren all have four legs: dogs Spencer and Carmella and cat Loki. Everyone will miss Alices enthusiasm for life and loving nature. There is a Mass of Christian Burial being held at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, 525 Washington Mall, Cape May, NJ at 4:00 pm on Friday May 30, 2008. The family will receive friends prior to the Mass from 3:15 to 4:00 pm.
