Elwood Frank Halter, Jr., age 73, of North Cape May passed away Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at Shore Memorial Hospital of Somers Point, NJ. Elwood was born March 9, 1942 in Philadelphia, PA. He is the son of the late Elwood F Halter Sr. and the late Vera Alice (Wright) Halter. Elwood retired from the Philadelphia Police Department in 1989 and then also retired from the Cape May-Lewes Ferry after many years of service. He was a member of the Villas Fishing Club, enjoyed fishing, golfing, and watching Phillies baseball. Elwood was preceded in death by two sons: Richard & Joseph Halter. He is survived by his daughter Karen (Michael) Martin of Cinnaminson, NJ; three brothers: Robert Halter, Ronald Halter, & Paul Halter; one sister Vera Holden; and five grandchildren: Lauren, Michael, Richard, Joseph, & William. Also surviving is his long time companion Janet Brown, her 4 children, and her 12 grandchildren. There will be funeral service at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 20, 2015 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment and a graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 21, 2015 at Hillside Cemetery, Roslyn, PA. To share condolences, please visit www.evoyfuneralhome.com.
