Obituary of Leila Ann Kauffman
Please share a memory of Leila to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Leila Ann Kauffman (nee Downie), age 76, of Cape May was called home by her Savior on April 18, 2015. Leila was born in Vineland, NJ and moved to Cape May after marrying the love of her life, the late P Douglas Kauffman. She was a graduate of VHS (1956), Cumberland County Community College, and earned her BS in Criminal Justice at Glassboro State College in 1980. Lee worked as a Probation Officer for the State of NJ. Upon retirement she was a substitute teacher with the Cape May School System. Lee was a true "people person" and an embodiment of benevolence, always putting other people's needs before her own. Her home was always open, often called Mom's B&B. As cooking was her hobby, you never left without a meal, good conversation, and a loving smile. Lee was never one to let the grass grow under her feet, leading a very active life. She loved her Garden Club, Bridge Group, Soroptimist Club, and the Red Hats. Christmas couldn't come without her tree trail family. Lee was loved by her community, but treasured by her family. Surviving to cherish her memory and carry on her legacy include her loving children: Rev Debra Ganci (Frank); Michael Ruberti (Donna); Thomas Ruberti (Carrie); Douglas Ruberti, Sr (Bambi); Patricia Pate (Lonnie); Michael Kauffman (Skye); and Geoffrey Kauffman as well as many-many grandchildren and great grandchildren, both near and far away. Lee is also survived by her brother Jack Downie (Cathy). She was predeceased by her husband P Douglas Kauffman, her son Robert Ruberti, Jr, her great granddaughter Ireland, her sister Arlene Travis, and her parents, Arthur E & Minervia Downie. Services will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, April 24, 2015 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ. Family and friends will be received from 6-8 PM on Thursday evening April 23 and from 9-10 AM on Friday before the service. Burial will follow at Cold Spring Cemetery, 780 Seashore Rd, Cold Spring, NJ. Lee will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
