Obituary of Dorothy Joan Vanaman

Dorothy "Joan" Vanaman, age 84, of Cape May passed away Sunday, April 12, 2015 surrounded by her large loving family. Joan was born and raised in Cape May and was a life-long area resident. She is the daughter of the late Allan Robson and the late Dorothy (nee Ranshaw) Robson-Leaming. Joan was a 1949 graduate of Cape May High School, she rode horses growing up on her family ranch (the Circle R Ranch) with her brothers and sister, worked at the A&P while raising her children, and later became the upholstery teacher at the local Vo-tech School (a job she loved doing for over 30 years). She attended the Seashore Community Church of the Nazarene. Joan was preceded in death by her brothers: Allan ("Bud") & William Robson; her sister Shirley Schumann, and her sons: Donald & Thomas Vanaman. She is survived by her husband of 64 years Robert Vanaman; her daughters: Brenda (Andy) Ridgway, Pamela Vanaman, & Alice DiCola; her sons: Robert(Paula) Vanaman & David (Kim) Vanaman; her 16 grandchildren; and her 23 great grandchildren. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Cold Spring Cemetery, 780 Seashore Rd, Cold Spring, NJ 08204. The family suggests donations in Joan's memory to a charity of the donor's choosing.
