Obituary of Sebastian Maugeri

Sebastian "Ben" Maugeri, age 90, of Cape May passed away Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Cape Regional Medical Center. Ben was born May 21, 1924 in Philadelphia, PA; and resided in Southwest Philadelphia prior to moving to Cape May 40 years ago. He summered and fished here for over 60 years. Ben was a Silk Screen Printing Foreman for Display Corp. of America in Philadelphia for 34 years. He then started a second 23 year career at the Trump Taj Mahal Casino where he held the distinction of being the oldest Poker Dealer in Atlantic City. He served his country in the US Marine Corps during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. Ben served as a Scoutmaster for Troop 73 in Southwest Philadelphia, was a great fisherman (known locally as "The Man in the Little Boat" - a 14 ft. fishing boat), enjoyed going to the casinos on his day off, and was a very creative cook - known especially for his clams and spaghetti. He is survived by his wife of 38 years Darlene (nee Taylor) Maugeri; his three sons: Thomas (Susan) Maugeri of Columbus, NJ; Paul (Patricia) Maugeri of Broomall, PA; & Robert (Brenda) Maugeri of Springfield, PA. Also surviving are his step-son Frank (Ann Marie) Schmidt of Hazleton, PA; his step-son-in-law James Carter; 11 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. Ben was preceded in death by his step-daughter Wendy Carter, and five brothers: Joseph, Anthony, Salvatore, William, & Fredrick. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 PM on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Our Lady Star of the Sea RC Church, Washington Street, Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 12:30 to 1:30 PM. Interment will follow at Cape May County Veteran's Cemetery, 127 Crest Haven Rd, Cape May Court House, NJ 08210.
