We were not close friends, but we shared close friends, we lived in different neighborhoods. I have never forgotten the time when we were in 2nd grade and Jim, Ed Evans and Dave Weber played hookey. The truant officer, Sam Fulton brought the three of them to the classroom. The stood in front of the class, heads hanging and clothing covered with mud. What a sorry looking trio. We talked about the incident at our 50th class reunion. Ed Evans filled in the blanks of their adventure, it was a riot. Like something out of a Mark Twain novel.
