Obituary of Lynn Gallagher
Please share a memory of Lynn to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lynn Gallagher (nee Tervit), 70, formerly of Chester Springs Pennsylvania, Eden Prairie Minnesota and Toronto Ontario passed away December 22, 2024. Born December 26th, 1953 in Toronto, Canada.
Lynn is survived by her husband of 49 years, Bill, and daughter Kristin. She is also survived by her two sisters Trish and Carole and brother Paul.
Lynn is the daughter of Robert and Jean Tervit who have predeceased her along with her son Scott who passed away in 2020.
Lynn and Bill lived permanently in Cape May for 9 years after renovating their weekend getaway cottage.
After fracturing her spine from a fall, Lynn was a resident of a skilled nursing facility to have physical therapy. After three weeks there and two days from her planned return home she died suddenly of acute cardiorespiratory arrest.
Lynn and husband Bill met in High School and were married in 1975. Recently, they were planning for their 50th wedding anniversary celebration that would take place at the lodge where they spent their honeymoon.
Lynn relished Friday night date nights at The Inn of Cape May on its porch overlooking the ocean and Sunday afternoon at the kitchen table over the Scrabble board. She was a fierce competitor. Bill would let her get away with making up words from time to time, especially if he had a Q, U, Z, J or Z that he could play off of it.
She anxiously awaited each summer and the visit from family.... Trish, Melinda, Veronica, Louis, Toria. The visits were populated with many traditions over the years. There were breakfasts at Uncle Bill's, dolphin boat rides, "Crab Night", "Rib Night", Melinda's grilling night and when not cooking on the deck, dinner at the same favorite spots year over year.
Family also convened occasionally at the house in Cape Coral Florida and it seemed like another tradition was in the making until COVID hit and trips south were curtailed.
Lynn made special all the traditional holidays as well as others that were invented. "Danniversary" on Oct 17, the date of her first date with Bill and "Stanniversary", on Nov 14, the date they started "going steady" back in 1968.
Having been born the day after Christmas, it was particularly important to her that her day was not overshadowed. And it never was. Special gifts and her favorite meal was always provided. Lynn would have been 71 on Dec 26, 2024.
A veteran of the travel industry, she loved to travel. Her first trip abroad was back in college. She backpacked across Scotland and Europe with her closest friend Ana. Subsequently, she experienced Greece, Morocco, Spain, Turkey and took many cruises.
She was a devoted wife, mother and home maker, known for her good humor, easy going nature and passion for her family and friends north and south of the Canadian border. And for her husband a true soulmate. They resonated at the same frequency.
Lynn was so loved and will be so missed. Arrangements will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American or Canadian Diabetes Association on Lynn's behalf.
