For too many years to count, it's been said I was the "Apple" of Uncle Joe's eye. What you need to know is that he was the "Apple of My Eye". Uncle Joe was always the tall, dark, and handsome guy I idolized as a little girl. Then along came beautiful Aunt Kay who loved me like her own child. Then my beautiful aunt and my darling uncle began their family. Alas, this dynamic couple who produced a brilliant, dazzling, fun-filled family always made for "Cher" to come visit on summer breaks. No matter how much mischief Joey and I made.
As I reminiscent of my uncle, tears roll down my face as I know I cannot ever telephone him and hear the joy of recognition for me in his voice at the other end of the line--a reminder of his love for me and his goodness. Or, out of the blue, receive a call from him to see how I'm doing. But then, I close my eyes and see charming smile, imagine his gentle laugh, and remember who taught me to make mischief in the first place. To my tall, dark, and handsome Uncle Joe--you have left us and will forevermore be in our hearts and thoughts.
May God bless and keep you Uncle Joe. You were truly an extraordinary man.
Yours, and will all of my love now and forever,
Cher
