Obituary of Edward W. Myers

Please share a memory of Edward to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Myers, Edward W., age 81, of North Cape May, passed away at his home on Thursday, September 19, 2024 with his loving family by his side. Edward was born in Philadelphia to the late Edward and Myrtle (nee Swank). He moved to Southampton, PA as a young child and graduated from William Tennent High School. He studied music at Temple University for two years before proudly serving in the Navy Band during the Vietnam War, where he played tuba and bass. He worked in the automobile industry, serving as the General Manager at Jarrett Dodge in Hatboro for over 40 years then as Used Car Manager at the Burke Motor Group in Lower Township, NJ until his retirement. His customers loved him and returned to him many times to purchase vehicles. He was a devoted family man who prioritized his family over everything else, especially Barbara, his wife of 59 years. He loved Barb's cooking and could eat nearly half of a butter cake in a single sitting. He was beyond proud of his 2 sons, Mark getting his associates degree from Montgomery County Community College and Dave getting his BA/MBA from Temple & LaSalle. His grandkids adored him and he loved hearing about softball adventures, the car rental business, the love of the Titanic, and the various animals helped at the shelter. They treasured his stories, jokes, and sage advice when needed. Dad loved vacations at the Jersey shore and ultimately realized his dream of retiring in Town Bank. He went to Stone Harbor as a kid and then to Long Beach island and Cape May with his family. His favorite things were the free concerts in Wildwood, the sandy beaches, his neighbors, and meals at The Menz, Lobster House, and Uncle Bills in North Cape May. Edward will be fondly remembered for a fantastic sense of humor as he had a quick wit and often left others rolling in laughter. His laugh was infectious and his story telling was legendary, he would tell all who would listen that he never lost a game of Canasta and was the one who reeled in "Jaws" of the beach in Cape May Point. His sons and grandchildren would sit on his lap with and his Yorkie riveted to what he would say next. He loved his Yorkies! First it was Penny, then Shelly & Hilly, then Maggie and finally Sophie. They would sit by his side or in his arms always. He snuck them whatever food he was eating when Barb wasn't looking and would watch hours of his favorite TV shows with him. Those furry friends loved him & he loved them. If you were to go on his Facebook page you'd see posts featuring his family, memes about seniors doing crazy things or classic cars. He loved classic cars and had a decided opinion on what was good & what was "lousy" or a "toad". He fondly remembered his cars with his Ford Galaxy convertible being his favorite. He is predeceased by his parents and his dog Maggie and left to cherish is memory is his wife Barbara (nee Tomlinson), his two sons Dave (Laurie) and Mark; his grandchildren Alyssa, Kristen, Sydney, Jacob, Joshua and Zachary; his siblings Thomas "Tom" (Lori) Myers and his pet Yorkie Sophie. A Memorial Service will be held at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., N. Cape May, on Friday, September 27 at 11am with a visitation 1 hour prior from 10am to 11am. Lunch will follow at Uncle Bill's, 3820 Bayshore Road, in North Cape May.
