Hewitt, Russell William (Russ), 84 years, of Villas, NJ, passed away comfortably at his home on September 15, 2024. Russ was born and raised in Philadelphia, where he attended Mercy Tech graduating as a certified baker. Russ was employed by Penn Fruit Co. as a member of the Teamsters Local 929 for 19 years. Later Russ moved to the shore and worked three jobs. He started two businesses on his own, in 1973, South Jersey Janitorial service and a bakery located in the Villas. Also, employed at Lower Township Elementary Schools as Maintenance Supervisor for 23 years. During this time, he was proudly a volunteer member of the Erma Fire Co. and a Lifetime Member in 1992. Russ retired in 1999 but always worked as a handyman, restoring antiques and proudly announcing "Your Trash is my Cash". Russ and his wife, Anne Marie worked side by side at festivals as vendors held in the Wilbraham Park, West Cape May. Russ was a devoted husband and is survived by his wife, Anne Marie and her son James Cavanaugh, daughter, Justine Cavanaugh; Russ's daughter Carol Jane Daughten (husband, John) and their children. Pops was loved by his grandchildren; James R. Cavanaugh, wife Tiffany, two great granddaughters, Briar and Isla, Anna, Aiden and Ava Franklin and their father, Skip Franklin were all adored by him. Russ's hardy laugh, with a good joke, handyman with a passion for duct tape and most generous heart will always be remembered and forever missed. Funeral service will be held at Evoy's Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., N. Cape May, on Friday, September 20th at 11am, with visiting 1 hour prior from 10am to 11am with Father Cesar Sarrano of St. John of God officiating. Burial will follow at St. Mary's cemetery in West Cape May.
