Obituary of Alexander R Mitchum

Please share a memory of Alexander to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With great sadness, the family of Alexander R. Mitchum announces his sudden and tragic passing as the result of a car accident August 10, 2024. Born Tuesday, February 13, 1996, in Cape May Court House, Alexander was the youngest boy of the seven children born to Stephen and Terese (Alvarez) Mitchum. Alex was hard-headed, always knew what he wanted, and went after it. As a precocious child he rode his tricycle off the porch, climbed out a window but eventually went after his dream-the guitar. He was known to have the gift to gab even at an early age. Known to have the last word – usually "I Love You", he was loyal, kind-hearted, loving, and passionate. His playful smile and devilish smirk would make his family and friends smile and laugh especially when they were down. Alexander was a natural born athlete and musician. During his younger years he excelled on the football field playing both quarterback and linebacker for Lower Township. During his high school years at Lower Township, he excelled both on the track team and as a swimmer and was a member of Theater where he performed in musicals and talent shows. His true passion was his love of music. Alex could play guitar in any style including hardcore with his brothers in Good Times, reggae, and jazz with Brian Betz and with the legendary Mary Wilson of the Supremes. Most recently, Alex could be found with his guitar performing at the Cricket Club, Rea's Farm Market, and many other local and private venues in not only Cape May County but other areas throughout Southern NJ. When Alex wasn't performing, he worked at Crest Savings Bank as a BSA investigator. Alex will be missed by many, but no one will miss him more than his parents Stephen and Terese. His siblings Catrina (Andrew), Stephen, Jr., Tessy (Dave), Lucas, Vincent, and Lillia will miss his calls and his smart-ass remarks. His nieces, Gwen and Kiri, will miss their Uncle Alex's goofiness. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends who will keep him in their heart. A Celebration of Alexander's life will be held at Noon Friday, August 16 at Evoy Funeral Home 3218 Bayshore Road North Cape May. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10AM until the time of service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, the family will be setting up a scholarship in Alex's name to continue his love of music and the arts. The family also asks that if you are attending to please dress in bright colors to stand for Alex's personality.
