Obituary of Jane Mary Grosskurth
Please share a memory of Jane to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Jane M. Grosskurth (nee Nocito), age 79, of Villas, NJ passed away peacefully while surrounded by family members after a battle with Ovarian Cancer.
Jane was the beloved wife of Philip M. Grosskurth; the loving mother of Geraldine Sullivan (the late Edward), John Lutes (fiancé Mecah Niro), Carl Grosskurth (Amy Erin) and the late Michael Lutes; the caring grandmother of Derek Lutes, Edward Sullivan, Kaylee, Ethan, Kelsey and Daniel Grosskurth; and the loving sister to Ernest Nocito (Vera) and Ralph Nocito (Marianne). Jane was also blessed with many friends, nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts, uncles, brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws and other relatives.
Jane was born in Philadelphia on June 30, 1944 to the late Ralph R. and the late Jane M. Nocito. She grew up in Drexel Hill, PA and graduated from Upper Darby High School in 1962. Jane spent most of her life in Upper Darby, PA before moving to Villas, NJ in her later years.
Jane worked at a variety of jobs throughout her life, but spent most of her years working for Electric Tachometer Corporation and DJR Logistics.
Jane was one of a kind. She lit up a room, had a bubbly personality and was well loved by everyone. You could often find her behind her camera, taking photos of people she knew and places she'd been. Jane loved music, especially live music. You could usually find her singing, dancing and/or watching her favorite musical groups perform in local venues. Jane enjoyed posting the entertainment schedules on social media of local South Jersey musical groups. Many of her friends looked forward to her entertainment posts, checking her social media page before making plans to go out. They joked that she was the "unofficial" social director for Cape May County.
Along with her love of music, Jane also loved string band music, as performed by the groups in the Philadelphia Mummers String Band Association. She was around string bands for a large portion of her life, as her son marched with both the Greater Overbrook String Band and the Greater Kensington String Band and her daughter is currently a member of the Duffy String Band. Jane had many friends throughout the string band community.
Jane was a member of the Villas Fishing Club and the Greater Cape May Elks Lodge #2839 in Lower Township, NJ. She enjoyed participating in their various social events, especially karaoke night. You could often find Jane and Phil at the Elks lodge, enjoying a meal and socializing with friends. Jane was a huge supporter of veterans' groups, as well as various police organizations. Throughout her life she had many close friends who worked as police officers.
Jane will be greatly missed by many people.
