Sally T Smith Obituary

Sally Theresa Feola Smith, of North Wildwood, NJ, passed away peacefully on February 16, 2024.

Sally turned 90 on her last birthday, November 8, which she celebrated surrounded by loving family and

friends.

Sally was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1933 to John Feola and Sarah Hertha Farley Feola.

She was the middle child, with older sister Carolyn Joan and younger brother John Michael Feola.

The family lived in south Philadelphia and enjoyed summers at the shore in Atlantic City.

Sally graduated from J.W. Hallahan Catholic Girls High School in Philadelphia, where at graduation she

received the "Courtesy Prize" for her gracious way with people. Her affable and fun nature endured

throughout her life. She made everyone around her feel comfortable and valued.

Sally was married to Joseph Anthony Smith of Chester, PA on November 27, 1971. She had one son,

Joseph Anthony Michael Smith. Sally loved being a mother most of all. In terms of career, she worked as an

administrative assistant for various federal agencies; her first job was at the United States Army Signal Corps in Philadelphia during the Eisenhower administration. One of her supervisors at that job marveled that she could

chat so much with coworkers, yet get so much done! After taking a long hiatus to raise her son, Sally returned to federal service, working at the U.S. Coast Guard Training Center in Cape May, NJ, where she retired in 1996.

Sally enjoyed an active retirement, with much travel and good times with friends and family. She became a grandmother at the age of 80 and poured all of her love and energy into helping raise young Lucy and Samuel.

She was an exceptional grandmother who spent many, many hours with her grandchildren, and she loved them deeply.

Sally is survived by her son Joseph Smith and his wife Esther James, and grandchildren Lucy Smith and Samuel Smith of Villas, NJ. Her extended family includes her brother John Feola and his wife Delores, along with nieces

and nephews from the Kilpatrick side (Carolyn Kilpatrick, Sally Anne Manich, Joan Kilpatrick, and Michael Kilpatrick) and the Feola side (Lori Barr, Linda Rudi, John Feola, Krista Feola, Elisa Feola, Melanie Feola and Valerie Feola).

Sally has a number of great nieces and nephews in Virginia, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. She was predeceased by her former husband; her sister Carolyn Joan Feola Kilpatrick of North Wildwood; and her beloved nephew John ("Jack") Kilpatrick of Haddon Township, NJ.

Sally's funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, February 21, at St. Ann Roman Catholic Church (2901 Atlantic Ave, Wildwood, NJ). Visitation with family will begin at 10 a.m. prior to the mass. She will be buried at St. Mary's Cemetery in Cape May.
