Please share a memory of Lee to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Lee R. Mathias, 77, North Cape May, entered into eternal rest Thursday, November 30 at Deborah Heart & Lung Center. A 5th generation Cape May County Native, he was born in Long's Maternity Hospital in Wildwood NJ March 9, 1946 to the late Roland and Edith (Harrison) Mathias. He a graduate of Lower Cape May High School and served in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War stationed on the USS Randolph. He worked as a locker man for the former Bell Telephone now Verizon. He previously worked at the former Magnesite Plant in Cape May. A few years ago, he decided to visit the former site of the Magnesite Plant in his 4wheel drive Jeep and with the help of his grandson Connor he got out of a sticky situation. Lee was proud to be "the original native" of Cape May County, he loved taking his grandchildren to the beach, boardwalk and out to dinner. He enjoyed traveling with his wife Carol and visiting their friends. He had a fondness for classic and antique cars and loved watching restoration shows on TV. If you ever met Lee, the first thing he would do would give you a nickname and that nickname would replace your given name as long as Lee knew you. To Lee, Happy Hour didn't begin at 5 o'clock it began at noon because "it's 12 o'clock somewhere". In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Sheila Lynn Mathias. Lee will forever be missed by his loving wife of 29 years Carol (Perkins) whom he married on September 9, 1994. He would often boast that Carol 'was the best thing that's ever happened to me". He will also be missed by his step daughter Tammy Magee wife of Sean; his grandchildren Connor and Ariel who were the loves of his life. A Celebration of Lee's life will be held Wednesday, December 6 at 11AM at Evoy Funeral Home 3218 Bayshore Road North Cape May. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10AM until the time of service. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers the family asks that donations be made in Lee's honor to Deborah Heart & Lung Center or the CVAC of Cape May County.
