Obituary of Susan Matthews

It is with much sadness that the family of Susan Matthews announces her passing on Wednesday, August 16 at Atlantic Care Medical Center, Atlantic City after her brief illness. Born September 30, 1961, she was the daughter of the late Albert and Elizabeth (Slackway) Matthews. She was a 1981 graduate of Lower Cape Regional High School and was employed as a housekeeper for the Reges Oceanfront Resort and the Waikiki Oceanfront Inn both located in Wildwood Crest. She could be described as a simple and caring person who would give the shirt off her back to anyone in need. She loved the beach, especially the beach at Fort Myers. She enjoyed vacationing at Hilton Head and dreamed of visiting the black sand beaches of Hawaii. She loved her dogs Bailey and Brownie and enjoyed relaxing while listening to her favorite song- Hotel California. There was no stronger love than the love Susan had for her two daughters Melissa and Kayla. Her love will forever guide them. "Like a guardian angel, the lighthouse stands, sending out hope in the night. Like a faithful friend, reaching out a hand, bringing comfort, truth, light and love." In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a sister Diane Brown (2014) and her husband David Brown (May 3, 2009). Susan will be forever missed by her daughters Melissa and Kayla; brother Allen (Linda), sister Linda (Bob); nephews Michael and Donny (Kristen); nieces Emmalee, Amy, Ashlie; great nephew Braydon; great nieces Olivia and Isabella; and many dear friends. Funeral Services will be held 11AM Monday, August 21 at Evoy Funeral Home 3218 Bayshore Road North Cape May. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects from 10AM until the time of service. Interment will be held on the grounds of Cold Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions could be made to the Matthews family to help defray expenses.
