“Sambo” was a nice guy. He always had a smile on his face. We worked together on the trams.

I only got to spend a brief time with Mr. Sambenedetto. Once during the marriage celebration of Nicholas and his wife, Laurie, and the other time shortly after his son Rick's death. Even during these brief occasions, it was obvious that he loved his family and friends. He was engaging and was interested to know about your life and was free and friendly as he shared his wisdom. 82 years on this earth is a pretty good run and he made the most of his time. He will be missed.

I had just received my pilot's license and Richie offered to take my 2 young daughters and I up for a ride. I had never traveled into NYC airspace so we had decided to fly around the Statute of Liberty. For my daughters, it would have been a trip of a life time.... that never happened. You see Rich was running little late that day and when we were getting ready to depart, all of the planes at the Cape May airport and every other airport got grounded. That day was 9-11. If we had departed as scheduled, we would have been flying around NYC during the terrorist attacks. Thank you God and Richie for protecting my family.......
