Obituary of Sally Shaffer
Please share a memory of Sally to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Sally Anne Shaffer, aged 74, passed away peacefully at her home in Cape May, New Jersey on Monday,
February 27, 2023. Sally was born on March 2, 1948, to parents John and Phyllis Shaffer in Delaware
County, Pennsylvania. Sally attended Overbrook Regional High School in Lindenwold, New Jersey where she was a popular, fun-loving teenager. Sally was on the Drill Squad, serving as Co-Captain her senior year, and was part of the Dance Committee and the yearbook staff. Sally was also part of the Varsity Queen Contest. She enjoyed fashion and was awarded best dressed of her senior class. Sally spent many summers in Cape May, New Jersey where her outgoing personality often led to mischief. She and her friend Mary were kicked out of many places over the years all in the name of fun.
After graduating from high school, Sally worked as a legal secretary and model. Upon the birth of her daughter, Meredith, Sally attended college and became a licensed practical nurse, a profession she enjoyed for more than 30 years. During this time, she worked in intensive care, emergency, and other critical care units. Sally moved to Cape May in 1996 to care for her mother but kept working as a nurse in home healthcare. Sally touched many lives with her caring, thoughtful way and had a great ear for listening and giving advice (whether you wanted it or not). Upon her diagnosis with COPD, Sally retired from nursing but never stopped caring for those around her. She often wrote letters to friends and family and spent many hours talking on the phone to loved ones. Sally was a fabulous cook who often just “threw things together” into magnificent culinary works of art. Sally was a diehard fan of cooking shows, DIY and British mysteries. Sally loved spending time at Douglas Park watching the ferry come and go. Most importantly, Sally enjoyed spending time with her family including her daughter and sister.
Sally maintained many friendships over the years including many of her friends from high school. She
helped organize two class reunions and enjoyed being the life of the party. Never one for a loss of
words, you always knew that Sally would tell you exactly how she felt about any given situation. Sally
was funny, opinionated, and smart. Sally is survived by her daughter Meredith, sister and brother-in law Sandra and Otto Kruger and many friends and family. A celebration of life will be held for family on April 2, 2023, in Ruskin, Florida. A second celebration of life will be held in Cape May, New Jersey in early May for friends and family.
