Catherine Veronica Schwakoff Obituary

On Thursday, January 26th , Catherine Veronica Schwakoff entered her eternal rest, while at home surrounded by her loving children and husband of 71 years.


Born January 4, 1932, in Darby PA, to the late William and Madeline (Hughes) Gavin. There she grew up and graduated from West Catholic High School in Philadelphia. She married the love of her life in 1951 and they went on to have nine children. After raising her family, Catherine worked with Jersey Cape Home Health Services. She was a long time member of St. John of God RC Church, North Cape May, where she served as an officer in the Legion of Mary. Catherine was deeply dedicated to her faith and cherished by her church community.


Catherine is survived by her loving husband, John (Jack) Schwakoff, her children Margaret Martinez, Karen (Paul), Bernadette (Joseph), Joseph (Marie), Marianne (Paul), Susan, Catherine, and Patricia (Lawrence), 24 grandchildren and 34 great grandchildren.


She is also survived by her sister Margaret Campbell, sister-in-law Dolores Gavin, and several nieces and nephews.


In addition to her parents and son John F. Jr. (Marie), she was preceded in death by her brother, Francis Gavin and son-in-law William Martinez.


A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, February 3rd, 11:00AM, at St. John of God RC Church, North Cape May. Family and friends are invited to pay their respects beginning at 10:00AM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice. Condolences can be shared at www.EvoyFuneralHome.com.
