In the early 1990’s we moved on the same street as Viola. Right away our daughter made friends with the children on the block. That is when I met Viola. She was the neighborhood grandmother. Everyone loved her. We lived there for about a year and moved away locally. About 12 years ago I moved back to a nearby neighborhood. I would ride my bike to the bay to watch the sunsets. That is when I saw Viola again. As the years went by I saw Viola walking from her home to the bay to watch the sunset. When I rode by her on my bike I always smiled and said hello and she smiled back with a hello in reply. I am not sure if she recognized me. She always mingled with people at the bay, watching the sun as it set. Chatting with everyone with a beautiful smile on her face. Her walks to and from her home where always by her self. I worried for her safety and rode around the blocks on my bike watching out for her until I knew she was close to her home. I guess it has been a year or so since I have seen Viola. I wondered how she was, where she was. On November 15th, I stumbled upon her obituary in search for another…. on the day of her service…. I think she wanted me to know that she was home.
