Sarah "Sally" Theresa Schmidt nee O'Callaghan passed away peacefully after a long fight with cancer at Cape Regional Medical Center. Recently residing at Pelican Pointe Nursing Home (Victoria Manor), Sally also lived in N. Wildwood, Eldora, Cape May, Drexel Hill PA and Ardmore, PA. Sally was born 2/25/49 at Fitzgerald Mercy Hospital, Darby, Delaware County, PA, to John and Theresa O'Callaghan (nee Logan). She graduated Saint Francis of Assisi School, Springfield, PA, 1963, and Upper Darby High School, 1967. During summer months, she served as a waitress at Uncle Lou's Pancake House. Following her education, Sally worked as a loan officer for Girard Bank, attaining ruby staff notoriety. Sally was a devout Catholic and loved to sing as a choir member at Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Cape May, as well as St. Bernadette's Drexel Hill. She was loved by both staff and residents alike at Pelican Pointe, known for her infinite smile and cheerful personality which exuded during the morning announcements. Sally is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Patrick O'Callaghan (1957), her daughter Bernadette Patterson (William) (2017), and her nephew Patrick Edwards (2022). She is survived by her son John Schmidt III (Heather), of Pottsville, PA, and grandchildren, Theresa Nicole Schmidt, serving in the United States Marine Corps, Mary Schmidt of Texas, Charles Patterson, Mackenzie Schmidt, Johnny Schmidt IV, and sister Maureen Edwards (Dr. Robert) of Ocean City (formerly of Delaware County, Cape May, and Reynoldsburg, Ohio). Her loss is also grieved by first cousins Frank, Kevin, and Mary Eileen Omlor (Johnston) and Deborah Fadgen. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Tuesday, November 8, at 11am at St John of God Church, 680 Townbank Rd, North Cape May, NJ. Family and friends may call from 10-11am prior to the service at the Church. Interment will follow immediately at Saint Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Father Miles Barrett, presiding. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Saint John of God Church and Pelican Pointe Nursing Home. Condolences may be shared at www.EvoyFuneralHome.com.
