Thomas Everett Allen passed away on Friday, January 14, 2022 at 92 years of age at the home of his daughter Sandra Lynn and son-in-law George Dress in Tuckahoe, NJ, where he had resided for the past four years with his wife Marjorie Gay Allen. Thomas was born in Atlantic City on April 1, 1929 to the late Joseph E. Allen and Vera Kaufmann Allen. They each passed at an early age, 49 and 48 respectively. By the time Thomas was 22 years of age both his parents had passed and his twelve-year-old younger brother, Joseph, was left in his care. His grandparents, Abbie and Harry Kaufmann, who lived in nearby Seaville were especially appreciated and helpful at that time. During his youth Tom's family moved often, as his father was a civil engineer, whose work took him to various places, one which was the country of Greece when Tom was three years old. He attended kindergarten there and learned to speak Greek. After Greece, the jobs were in various states in the USA. Tom attended schools in NJ at times, including Ocean City High School. It was in Warner Robins, GA that he met his future wife and graduated High School in 1947. He attended GA Tech one year and PMC in PA. For two summers, 1949 and 1950, he worked as a lifeguard on the Atlantic City Beach Patrol. He worked for Atlantic City Electric Company from 1953 to 1987 as a Land Surveyor, Right-of-way Agent, Service Representative and Economic Development Representative. After retiring from the Electric Company, he was Director of the Southern NJ Technology Consortium for three years. The family attended the Methodist Church in areas where they resided — Seaville United Methodist Church, Central United Methodist Church in Linwood, St. Peters United Methodist Church in Ocean City and New Covenant UMC in The Villages, FL. Tom was always an active choir member. He also enjoyed singing in other choral groups in Ocean City and FL. He enjoyed running, biking and kayaking; photography and was president of the Atlantic City Camera Club for several years; enjoyed golf, skiing and genealogy. The family traveled throughout the U.S. in their motor home and to Disney World, often with a dog and a few grandchildren in tow. They traveled many places outside the U.S over the years usually in the company of friends. Tom was predeceased by his brother Joseph Allen and brother-in- law Charles H. Gay. He is survived by his wife of 71 years Marjorie Gay, daughter Sandra Lynn Dress (George), son Thomas Allen (Nancy Lucchin) of Montgomery, AL.; and grandchildren Michael, Joseph and Thomas Dress; Matthew Allen (Kara Hovland) of CT and Cassie Allen Piacenza (Michael) of CT.; sister-in-law Carol McDermott Allen, nephew Christopher Allen (Christine), niece Marcy Sullivan (Andrew); sister-in-law Ruth Meadows Gay and nephew Alan Gay (Melissa) of Virginia and five great grandchildren. Tom, affectionately known as "Bee", will be sadly missed by family and friends. Services for Tom will be held at a later date. Memorial donations can be made to an animal rescue of your choice.
