Obituary of Paul Colberg

COLBERG, Paul Lawrence, Jr., age 97, of Kettering, passed away on Thursday, November 4, 2021. Paul was born on October 19, 1924 in North Wildwood, NJ to the late Paul L. and Minnie (Lount) Colberg, Sr. He graduated from Wildwood High School in NJ and Juniata College in PA with a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology. Paul was a member of the VFW in Wildwood, NJ and a former Swedish Club member in Columbus and attended church at Church of the Cross in Kettering. He served in the U.S. Navy as a "Seabee" Petty Officer 3rd Class, where he did carpentry and construction during his time in the Pacific Campaign of World War II. He received the American Theater Medal, Victory Medal and Asiatic-Pacific Medal with one star. Paul married Joanne Yohn after seven years of courtship, and together they raised two daughters. Paul was a medical technologist for Miami Valley Hospital and CompuNet Clinical Laboratories for 44 years. He was a one-of-a-kind, STUBBORN, patriotic, perfectionist who was honest, hilarious, strong, wise, frugal, yet generous and totally committed to family. He enjoyed hunting, wood carving, and traveling with friends and family. Paul was a simple, down to Earth man who brought out the best in people. He was preceded in death by his wife of 54 years, Joanne (2017). Paul is survived by his daughters, Suzy Bennett (Mike Cross) of London, OH and Inga (Tim) Fisher of Springboro, OH; granddaughters, Elizabeth, Payton, Emily, Tori, Maddie, and Jocelyn; bonus granddaughter, Mickala Cross; and special family friend, Jeff Funkhouser. Family will greet friends from 1:00-2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at ROUTSONG FUNERAL HOME, 2100 E STROOP RD, KETTERING. Funeral services will begin at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow the service at the funeral home. Dennis Barnhart officiating. Burial in Cold Spring Cemetery, Cold Spring, NJ at 11am on Thursday, November 18, 2021.
