Matthews, Wayne J., age 79, and a life-long area resident of Erma, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2021. Wayne was born in Somers Point and graduated from Cape May City High School in 1959 where he was a star baseball player. He served in the US Army from 1960 to 1963 and went on to become a manager for the Cape May ACME for many years. He enjoyed baseball, his coffee and watching western TV shows. Wayne is predeceased by his parents Wesley H. and Grace M. (nee Morris) Matthews and his brother-in-law Carmine Francesco. Left to cherish his memory is his son Todd (Ann Marie Quinn) Matthews and daughter Robin Matthews and his sisters Joanne Francesco and Carol (Ed) Cooper. Services will be private and condolences can be shared at www.EvoyFuneralHome.com.
