It saddens me to see that Bill has passed away. My husband and I met Bill back in the 90's when he was on the Herndon Town Council and shared many family genealogical conversations. He was truly a wonderful person [one of the best town council members the town has ever had], and will be missed by many. Condolences to his family.

I met Bill in 1996 while I was one of the Air Force representatives to PDTATAC. He took me under his wing and loved to chat about work, his faith, and family. Bill would call me or email each year on my Birthday no matter where I was in the world. He was a wonderful friend and my heart is saddened for Jan and the family who will lack his huge presence in their life. I will miss him but know that he is with Our Lord in Heaven. To Bill's family and friends,
My heartfelt condolences to you and all. I worked with Bill Tirrell when he was a Federal civilian employee Branch Chief in the Travel and Transportation office of DoD from about 2001 until he retired. He was extremely knowledgeable, experienced, patient and professional. He was an exceptional mentor and example to everyone he worked with. He was unassuming, always sought to do what was right, was unselfish with his time. He not only was willing but actively sought to help others. He truly cared for and took care of those persons who worked with or around him. He was always a team player. He indeed literally helped millions of U.S. Service members, Federal civilian employees, and their dependents and family members with the work he and his staff did.
respectfully, Mr. Kerry Cerny, USMC (Ret)

Jan and Family,
I am so sorry to hear of Bill's passing. Remember that he is no longer in any pain, and looks down on you with a smile all the time.
Bill and I were in the same class at Navy Destroyer School in 1971. While we never served together after that, we maintained a friendship that all shipmates have over the years.
Best Wishes to all,
Gordon and Pat Holder

Bill Tirrell was one of the finest, if not THE finest, man that I have ever known. He was like a brother to me for over 40 years and I am not ashamed to say that I loved him- and what made our relationship more special is that I knew that he felt the same way about me. We spent quality time together as both Jaycees in the Town of Herndon and then a little later working together on the Board of Camp Virginia Jaycee, in all cases trying to give back to our community and state. He was a man of great character and integrity, and I would have trusted him with my life. He was a great family man and loved his wife Jan, his children JJ and BJ, and all of his grandchildren deeply. I had hoped to grow old with Bill and now another dear friend has departed - quite frankly I can not imagine a world without Bill Tirrell!
Fair winds and gentle breezes my brother as you enter upon your new journey.
