Frederick W. Hettenbach, age 85, of Cape May Courthouse, passed away peacefully in his home on August 30, 2020. He was a former resident of Springfield, NJ. Fred was born in 1935 in Newark, NJ, to parents Frederick S. and Bertha (Beck) Hettenbach, and graduated from Weequahic High School in 1953. In 1958 he married the love of his life, Rosalie (Abrams) Hettenbach, with whom he raised three children. He joined his father in the plumbing and heating trade when he was 17, successfully operating the family business for nearly 50 years. He served 8 years in the U.S. Naval Reserves. After retiring his business, Fred worked as a building and plumbing inspector in both Asbury Park and Lower Township. He was an active member of the Cape May Lutheran Church since moving to Cape May Courthouse in 2009, and an active member of the Freemasons for over 50 years. He was a devoted husband and father who will be greatly missed by his family. Fred was preceded in death by his wife, Rosalie, whom he loved until his dying day. He is survived by his three children: Gail (Chris) Hartnett, Nancy (Don Jr.) Embs, and Wayne (Kelly) Hettenbach; his six grandchildren, Cassandra and Alaina Hartnett, Jason and Jeremy (Molly) Embs, Tanner and Alexander Hettenbach; and a great-granddaughter, Mikaela Embs. The family would like to extend a special thank you to his live-in caregivers Diane, Bob, and Anna for the care and compassion they showed to Fred during these past few years. They are also grateful for the many other caregivers, nurses, doctors, and staff and volunteers of Hospice for their support and assistance. A graveside visitation will be held on Thursday, September 10 from 10:00-10:45 am, with a memorial ceremony afterward from 10:45-11:30am at Cold Spring Cemetery in Cape May.
