"Welcome to Paradise!" you would hear if you called Ed or Dot on the phone at the lovely home they built after retirement. But, retirement was really only a word to Ed, because, in the two decades in which they lived next to us in Townbank there was never a time when Ed wasn't busy doing one job or another! Whether tending his lush tomato crop in the yard, hanging another bird house from the roof of the back porch (or adding seeds to the bird-feeder in the yard for all the birds that the houses attracted) Ed was always busy. He took better care of his boat in the drive than many people take of their houses! When not otherwise occupied, he could usually be found in his well-equipped carpentry workshop, where he made countless handy and practical items out of wood.
Ed and Dot became involved in the Property Owners Association big time, especially on Saturdays, when Ed was chief flapjack flipper at the breakfast fund-raisers. He and Dot contributed greatly over the years to the association's Whale of a Day street fair each July. When Ernie and I visited him in a near-by health facility after Alzheimer's Disease had taken its toll, Ed was still, in his mind, directing a work detail there. I suspect that he is doing the same even now and will, when we see him next, be working hard, improving Paradise! Ernie and Edna Bogert
