Thomas E Higgins, age 78, of Wildwood passed away peacefully Wednesday, October 23, 2013 at Victorian Manor Nursing Home. Mr. Higgins was born in Philadelphia, PA. to the late Edward E Higgins and the late Alice (Osborn) Higgins. He was a veteran of the US Army and a Philadelphia Highway Patrol Officer who received several commendations, including one for heroism in the line of duty. After leaving the Highway Patrol, Mr. Higgins relocated his family to Tioga County, Pennsylvania where he operated a nursery stock and cattle farm. While living in upstate PA., Mr. Higgins resumed his law enforcement career serving as the Chief County Detective for Tioga County. After leaving the farm behind, Mr. Higgins started Ferncrest Landscaping & Lawn Service, which he operated for over thirty years from his residence in Wildwood Crest, NJ. While living in the Wildwoods, Mr. Higgins was active with the Greater Wildwood Little League; where he served as a coach and an umpire. Among his many interests were the shooting sports, history, and fly fishing. Mr. Higgins is survived by his beloved life companion Diane Prout; his children: Thomas (Ann), Ellen (Joan), & Scott (Jennifer); and five grandchildren. Funeral services will be private.
