Obituary of Joseph John Sweeney

Joseph J. Sweeney, 72 of Philadelphia and North Wildwood, passed away on April 20, 2019. Joe proudly served in Vietnam as a Boatswain's Mate Petty Officer in the US Navy, and also retired from the Philadelphia Fire Department. Joe married his main squeeze, Ruth McGarvey nearly 50 years ago. He was a beloved father to Jennifer Kearney (Joe), Stacey Torres (Joe) and Jessica Henry (Jim). He took great pride in his family including his grandchildren, Julia, Michael, Scarlett, Ellie, Jimmy, Mary, Greg, Anthony and Christian. He is also survived by his two sisters Dorothy Barnes and Joan Hiddeman, and several nieces and nephews and in-laws whom he deeply loved. He is predeceased by his parents Charles and Dorothy and brother, Charles. Joe enjoyed his remote control, hanging with his little buddy, Bob, Wednesday's at the Firehouse Tavern, great music and drinks with friends. A memorial gathering will be held on Friday, April 26th at Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May from 11am to 1pm.
