Obituary of Steven J. Alfano

Alfano, Steven J., 68, of North Cape May, had his sunrise on July 3, 1950 in York, PA to the late L. Joseph Alfano and the late Nancy Wagner Alfano and had his sunset on Tuesday October 23, 2018. He was a graduate of Penn State University and received his master's degree in social work from Rutgers University and received his LCSW in 2000. He worked for Cape Counseling for 35 years and in 1993 he became the intake coordinator for Cape Counseling, and was a certified screener for Cape Regional Medical Center. He was trained in sexual abuse counseling at the Peters Institute in Philadelphia, was a credentialed disaster response crisis counselor, and also taught at Stockton College and Rutgers University Graduate School. In 2017 he received the Mental Health Provider of the Year award from the Cape May County Freeholders. He was an avid photographer and nature lover. He enjoyed traveling, hiking and reading, and in 1976 co-authored a speed-reading book titled "How to Read For Maximum Efficiency". He is survived by his fiancée Cheryl King and Cheryl's son Philip King and a brother Larry (Judy) Alfano, 3 nieces Chelsea Alfano, Katie (Ryan) Herron, and Kelly Cline, and 3 nephews Bradley (Stephanie) Alfano, Bryan and Andrew Alfano. Friends may call at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd., North Cape May, Wednesday November 7 from 12:30 to 2pm followed by a memorial service at 2pm; interment following at Cold Spring Cemetery.
