HEPKE Jean M. (nee Perna) Age 89 years, of Malvern, PA and Avalon, NJ passed away on June 28th, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Wife of the late Edward (Ted) W. Hepke. Mother of Bruce (Susan) and Brian (Michelle). "Grandma Jean" to Darren and Connor. She is predeceased by her beloved mother, Marie Perna (nee DePalma) and her doting uncles John, Louis, Attilio and Emilio (DePalma). Jean was a graduate of Philadelphia Girls High and East Stroudsburg State Teachers College. Although she attained a BS degree in Health Sciences, Jean became an expert in English grammar. Her teaching career began in 1952 at Cheltenham High. She later taught English at Haverford Jr. High and Radnor Middle School. Jean enjoyed chance meetings with her former students in their adult years. She was a voracious reader and supported the Marple Library and volunteered as a member of "The Menders" at the Malvern Public Library. A proud and longtime member of the Yacht Club of Stone Harbor, Jean led the YCSH Book Club for decades. A beach lover, Jean summered in Avalon for over 45 years and formed a ladies' golf group at The Pines at Clermont Golf Club, playing into her 80's. A memorial event will be held this summer.
