Jay P. Steinmetz, age 80, of Cape May passed away Monday, September 18, 2017 at his home after a long battle with cancer. Jay was born in Lancaster, PA; formerly lived in Kennett Square, PA, and has been a Cape May resident for 34 years. He taught at Kennett Square High School and was later a Professor of Media Technology at West Chester University. Jay was also owner/operator of Fishing Rod Enterprises of Cape May. He enjoyed fishing, boating, and making nautical charts, but most of all enjoyed spending time with his family. Jay helped everyone he knew and always kept up with the newest technology of computers. He is survived by his wife of 31 years: Shirley (Blackmore) Steinmetz; his daughter Paula (Doug) Dvorak; his step son Paul C Neville; and four of his 13 siblings. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces & nephews. There will be a funeral service at 11:00 AM on Saturday, September 23, 2017 at the Evoy Funeral Home, 3218 Bayshore Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. The family suggests donations in Jay's memory to the American Cancer Society, 1851 Old Cuthbert Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08034 or to Holy Redeemer Hospice, 1801 Route 9, Swainton, NJ 08210.
