Obituary of Edward J. Gallagher

Edward J. Gallagher, age 84, of Villas passed away peacefully Wednesday, May 17, 2017 at Autumn Lake Nursing Home of Ocean View, NJ. Edward was born June 22, 1932 in Philadelphia, PA; lived in the Lawncrest Section of that city; and has been a Cape May area resident for over 30 years. He is the son of the late Joseph and the late Delia (Coll) Gallagher. Edward served in the US Army during the Korean War. He was employed by Cape May Co. Fare Free Transportation as a driver and was Operations Manager at APA Transport. Edward was a member of the Emerald Society of Wildwood and a former member of the Villas Fishing Club. He was preceded in death by his son Edward J. Gallagher, Jr. Edward is survived by his wife: Joanne (Smedley) Gallagher, one daughter: Colleen (Patrick) Hughes and one son: Joseph (Florence) Gallagher. He was one of fifteen children with only two surviving: his brother Patrick Gallagher, & sister Betty Hartle. He also has six grandchildren: Emily Jo Gallagher (Robert Greiner), Padraig Hughes, Connor Edward G. Hughes, Bridget Gallagher, Lizzy Hahn, & Dr. Edward Gallagher III; three great grandchildren: Brayden Oliver, Ciarra, & Olivia; and two great-great granddaughters: Grayson & Amelia. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM on Monday, May 22, 2017 at the Parish of St John Neumann, St John of God RC Church, 680 Townbank Rd, North Cape May, NJ 08204; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM.
