David Vogel Kerman, age 82, of North Cape May passed away the evening of Saturday, May 25, 2013 at his home. Born in Danville, PA, October 4, 1930; he was the son of Rabbi Julius and Mrs. Ethel Kerman, and the brother of Rabbi Daniel Kerman. David's life was marked by a passion for knowledge, contemplation and discourse. He earned two Master's degrees (in American Studies and Education), continued his quest for knowledge throughout his life, and dedicated his career to the education of special needs students. His interest in giving others the benefit of mankind's accumulated knowledge frequently motivated him to include his students in his own family life. Prior to his career in education, David studied at the Chicago Institute of Design. His love for art continued throughout his life working in clay, metal and charcoals. During his retirement, he continued to enjoy getting to know new people and furthering his studies of social, geopolitical, and religious history. When not engaged in intellectual pursuits in his later years, he enjoyed gardening and bird watching. David is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sheila, as well as several children and grandchildren: their daughter Laurel, her husband John and their daughter Sara of North Chatham, NY; their son Jon of Jerusalem, Israel; their daughter Myra, her husband T. J., and their children Matthew and Lila of West Cape May; their son Jeremy, his wife Amy, and their daughters Lizzie and Katie of Durham, NC; and their granddog Morpheus of West Cape May. David's passing will be observed by a small private family ceremony.
