Charles "Chalky" Bent, age 82, of Wildwood passed away peacefully Saturday, May 25, 2013. He was preceded in death by his wife Doris (nee Cameron). Chalky is survived by his sister Mary Cresse, his son Michael Bent of Wildwood, NJ, and his daughter Donna Wamsley (Vince) of Norfolk, VA. Forever known as Pop Pop to his grandchildren: Gary McPherson (Annie) and Nicole Bent, and his great grandchildren: Emma, Owen, and John; he will be sadly missed by his niece Kim Belasco (Bo) and his best friend James Cammarano (Danielle). Raised in Philadelphia, Chalky settled down with Doris in Lower Township where they raised their family. After serving in the US Marine Corps., Chalky worked as a milkman for Abbott's Dairy in Wildwood. Soon after, he purchased Grande's Caf, also in Wildwood. For three decades Chalky made Grande's "the place to be". Whether it be showing his patriotism by burning an Iranian flag on the bar rooftop, or kick starting the fad of throwing bricks at Howard Cosell anytime he was on the TV screen; Chalky made Grande's the talk of the town. There will be a Memorial Mass at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, May 29, 2013 at Notre Dame de la Mer Parish, St. Anne's RC Church, 2900 Atlantic Ave, Wildwood, NJ 08260; where friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. To share condolences, please visit www.evoyfuneralhome.com.
