Obituary of Esther May Ewing

Esther M. Ewing, age 86, of Cold Spring, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on June 3, 2016. Esther was born in Cape May Court House, New Jersey, and was a lifelong resident of Cape May County. She was the daughter of the late Herbert and Bessie (Smith) Chandler. Esther is survived by her brother Robert Chandler (and Gladys) of Woodbine, and her sister Pauline Richardson, of Cape May Court House. She was predeceased by her brothers Herbert (Leon) Chandler, Melvin Chandler, and Helena Allen. As a young woman Esther worked in her mother's store, Chandler's Market. Esther and her late husband George ran a successful roadside produce stand, Ewing's Produce, and for many years also owned and operated Ewing's Septic Systems. She was preceded in death earlier this year by her husband of sixty five years, George Ewing on 4/12/2016. She is survived by her son Ronald Ewing and his wife Christina, her two daughters: Linda Ewing, and Susan Saylor and her husband Steven, and seven grandchildren: Emma and Harrison Ewing, Dina Matthews, Darla Matthews - Delp, Donna Roth, Aaron and Joshua Saylor. Her seven great grandchildren: Averie, Sierra, Raine, and Briar McNeill, Celeste Matthews – Delp, Cadence and Chase Roth, and her great, great grandson Haiden Lee McNeill. Esther was spirited and earthy, known for her sparkling blue eyes and her sense of fun. She took great joy in decorating her home for every holiday, going to events in the community, and she loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. In later years the family grew strawberries and pumpkins that her grandchildren Emma and Harrison helped her sell by the roadside.
